What Never Was, Will Never Be

34

You can’t miss what was never there
Though it may seem hard to bear
At empty walls we will stare
Filled with illusions of a glare
Feeling that life is unfair
We get hurt when we care
Even if our feelings we don’t share
There are those who will dare
To be one with the air
Until we notice is just a flare

We have to ask, can it be?
Were we too blind to see?
Maybe it wasn’t meant for me
We have to think “thankfully”
That we only bit from the forbidden tree
If we ate, it could have started a spree
Of pain and hate, we’d never be free
With emptiness deeper than the sea
So stop thinking there could’ve been a “we”
Because what never was, will never be
